I call my store DREAMS OF GLITTER because it was a dream – my Mother's dream and all of the jewelry comes from my mother's costume jewelry store called THE GYPSY which was closed 20 years ago when she passed. I didn't realize until after she was gone what a wonderful collection it was - and it was a collection as she only bought what she liked. Mostly she knew who she was buying from and entertained us with the stories of their lives while we looked at jewelry worn by someone we never knew nor met. Often, my Mother kept in touch with them for a long time and if you saw a necklace in her store, she could usually tell you who owned it.
She had loyal customers who took her advice on what looked good on them - and she had a talent for that. Now, the shop, owned by her for many years has been closed since 2000. Her local and European customers still come looking for her and her magical store.
Much of the vintage costume jewelry was strung with cotton thread which deteriorated over the years and though it was still intact, my fear was that it would break at an inopportune time, so we have restrung many pieces. Also, we are here to repair any unforeseen accident. I want them to live with you for a long time.
Vintage costume jewelry is designed and has a designer, just as any fine jewelry. And as with all jewelry, sometimes we know the maker and designer and other times, we just guess, but there is an exuberance and freedom in the design of costume pieces and they can last a lifetime plus, just as any fine jewelry can. I hope you enjoy the jewelry as much as we do.
